Training method – neurofeedback treatment

Neurofeedback training can be used to help people from all walks of life, not just elite athletes, to enhance their personal growth and improve their health and physical condition, simply by learning how to correct their brainwave patterns. Many are finding that this is an effective way to do exactly that on a consistent basis.

It was recently reported in a major sports magazine that members of the Italian football team implemented this advanced brain training technique to help them stay sharp and focused during high-pressure situations they encountered in their recent FIFA World Cup competition. While many methods of biofeedback neurofeedback instruction have been in use since the 1960′s, this recent news in the sports world has helped to bring current attention to this approach of improving athletic prowess and performance. Neurofeedback therapy is a form of biofeedback and is a method through which a person comes to understand their brainwave patterns and learns how to modify them.

The treatment that is known as EEG biofeedback is actually one specific type of the more general treatment modality known as “biofeedback.” Biofeedback therapies, in general, have been around for about 40 years and have primarily been used to assist in relaxation and for conditions related to stress and to muscle impairments.

Neurofeedback training is administered by skilled and practiced biofeedback therapists and begins with having the person play a video game by only using their brainwaves. If you happen to eavesdrop on conversations that are swirling in sports bars or being whispered in locker rooms, then you just might overhear some discussion about neurofeedback training. Increasingly, this form of biofeedback therapy is being used by elite athletes who are constantly striving to improve their performance and to gain the edge in competition. Through this process, the information that is provided by the brainwaves is monitored via electrodes attached to the person’s head and then interpreted by the biofeedback machine.

The interesting thing is that with this training approach, the participant is not using any kind of physical input device, such as a joystick or gaming console. Instead, the biofeedback program is utilizing the output from the person’s brain activity to play the game. Many people are at first startled by this concept, but are quickly excited to learn about the degree of control that they are able to apply simply through “thought power.”

Before being involved in a biofeedback program, most people have no understanding of how their thoughts can either limit their self-development or can significantly enhance it.

One of the most compelling reasons why people begin this type of “feedback” training is because it is virtually the opposite of therapies or treatments that rely on the use of medication, either by prescription or those available over-the-counter. This goes hand-in-hand with the recent surge in interest that is being seen in the area of learning about alternative medicines and alternative therapies to improve health and overcome illnesses, without drugs and without surgery.

Neurofeedback training is not only beneficial for athletes, as it has developed a strong reputation for being able to help improve a variety of health conditions. Some of the many benefits of biofeedback therapy that have been reported are: reducing blood pressure, improving circulation, speeding recovery after injury or surgery, and alleviating chronic headaches, including migraines. It should be mentioned that biofeedback therapists often clarify that biofeedback treatment in and of itself should not be considered to be a cure for anything. However, the control a person can gain through this type of therapy is what allows them to make improvements in many areas of their health.

Smart biofeedback therapists wanted! Demand is high!

There have been hundreds of thousands of people over the last forty plus years who have received significant benefits from the use of EEG biofeedback treatments. This is a holistic, non-invasive approach to treating various conditions, such as ADD/ADHD, chronic pain and many other illnesses. For those who have struggled for years to find effective treatment to chronic conditions, biofeedback therapy is often called a godsend because it provided relief when other types of treatment failed.

EEG biofeedback therapy is understood to support the improved formation of the essential communication pathways in the brain. Neurofeedback therapy has also repeatedly demonstrated that it can help patients to more effectively live with a variety of emotional problems and conditions, as well as addressing many physical ailments. Best of all, it is able to provide this relief to people without pain, without invasive procedures, and without the need to take costly and possibly harmful pharmaceuticals.

All of the forms of biofeedback provide “feed back” information to the subject, in terms of the small, internal changes in their biological processes. EEG biofeedback is currently being practiced on a daily basis in a wide array of psychological and medical practices around the world. The demand for biofeedback treatment is undergoing rapid growth, and there is also an increasingly greater scope of issues it is being used to address. While there still are many skeptics of neurotherapy, the fact is that the demand is increasing. It is highly unlikely the demand would be so high if there were no real and measurable benefits.

EEG biofeedback is an effective way to train the brain to be more efficient in its patterns and control of physiological functions. Neurofeedback therapy has also shown people the power of the mind-body connection and helps them to gain a greater sense of mastery of their bodies through the initial awareness and through the practice that comes with the ongoing neurofeedback training sessions.

EEG biofeedback is considered to be a very promising and complementary intervention that can improve the results of more mainstream types of treatment, and in many cases, can even help people to eliminate the need to take medications. A good biofeedback program can also be used to teach those who are affected by ADD/ADHD to control their brainwaves and bring them into a balanced “normal range,” which helps them overcome the challenges of ADD and ADHD.

The EEG biofeedback mechanism that is able to help children with ADD/ADHD is based on the principle of separating certain brainwave patterns. Many biofeedback therapists are convinced that these cutting-edge neurotherapies are simply the most advanced way of retraining the brain, and they are also very excited about the hope that it offers to sufferers of chronic pain.

Are you like me and never open up the owners manual unless YOU MUST fix something???

That’s not the best time – trust me on this! All cameras come with an owners manual, but so few people take the time to read it. Once they get past the basic operations, they get anxious to go out and try the camera. Hopefully you will find the following suggestions helpful in getting the most from your digital camera.

After your first overview of the features your camera possesses, decide what you would like to explore the most. Pick only one special feature. Read the instructions on what this feature can do and how to use it. Don’t worry if it isn’t completely clear, that will come in time.

Things you could learn about from the owners manual:

Lens — A circular and transparent glass or plastic piece that has the function of collecting light and focusing it on the sensor to capture the image.

Megabyte — (MB) Measures 1024 Kilobytes, and refers to the amount of information in a file, or how much information can be contained on a Memory Card, Hard Drive or Disk.
Pixels — Tiny units of color that make up digital pictures. Pixels also measure digital resolution. One million pixels adds up to one mega-pixel.

Maybe all the new terms are confusing or there seems like too much information to digest. This is understandable, but by not reading the entire manual, you limit yourself and many cool features of your camera are never used.

Compression — The process of compacting digital data, images and text by deleting selected information.

Digital Zoom — Cropping and magnifying the center part of an image.

When you are satisfied you know the ins and outs of one special feature, return to the owner’s manual and pick another special feature you would like to learn. Repeat the above process with this feature, only returning to the manual when you are satisfied you have mastered the new skill.

By working through the owner’s manual in this way, you will find it isn’t so overwhelming. The hands-on practice of each skill will help you learn it thoroughly. When you have covered all the cool things your camera will do, go out and enjoy them all. You will be glad you took the time to become friends with this wonderful creation.

It helps when learning to use your new digital camera to also know what some of the more common terms mean. Below you will find many of these common terms defined.

LCD — (Liquid-Crystal Display) is a small screen on a digital camera for viewing images.

Now the fun part. Take your camera and start using this special feature. Try all the different settings within this one feature. See how your pictures change. Explore what this feature does. Don’t stop until you know this feature inside and out and don’t go onto the next feature until you have fully explored this one.

RGB — Refers to Red, Green, Blue colors used on computers to create all other colors.
Resolution — Camera resolution describes the number of pixels used to create the image, which determines the amount of detail a camera can capture. The more pixels a camera has, the more detail it can register and the larger the picture can be
printed.

Storage Card — The removable storage device which holds images taken with the camera, comparable to film, but much smaller. Also called a digital camera memory card.

Viewfinder — The optical “window” to look through to compose the scene.

Why not try an audio book? Your Kids will love them!

If you find your life is going too fast to be able to sit down and read a book, why not try an audio book? They are perfect for those long car rides or flights and can go wherever you go. You do not have to clear an entire weekend just to read the latest spy novel. You can take it with you on the way to and from work each day or you can load it onto your MP3 player.

An audio book is a cassette, compact disc or MP3 version of a book. It is a way for someone to know a piece of literature without having to sit down and read the actual book. Many times in our lives there is simply not enough time to devote to reading. It is a shame but at least the audio book is a better compromise than trying to watch an adaptation onscreen.

Audio books are created when an actor, actress or someone paid to read, reads from the book. There are not any colorful pictures when listening to children audio books but that does not have to stop you. A great way to encourage children to read is to purchase the book and have the kids follow along as the words are read. This can help the child with unfamiliar words or phrases. If they are too young to be able to hold the book themselves, they can still be entertained by the voices.

The audio books can help develop the childs brain functions and can begin a life-long love of reading books and spoken word data.

There are many ways to listen to an audio book. The audio book player can be anything from a car radio to an Ipod.

Audio books for children are great ways to provide entertainment on long car rides and offer an alternative to putting in a movie. So how is an audio book created? The book is read aloud. It is that simple.

Not all books are transferred from print to oral communication. The more common audio books are those from bestsellers. Take for example the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Her books have been converted over into a listening format. Once a book has been marked for transformation into an audio book, the publishing company may try to acquire the use of a famous actor or actress that has a distinct voice. This association lends a face to the anonymous voice being heard through the speakers or earphones.

Several years ago the audio books cassette was the most popular form found for listening to books. Today though, with the mp3 player and the compact disc player, the audio book player has become more advanced and capable of so much more.

An audio book does not have to be just listened to by itself. Children can read along as the voice spins the story. They can track each word, line and paragraph with a finger. If there are any words that might be unfamiliar, this is an excellent tool to teach them. The audio book has been used for this method of instruction for many years and many adults remember going to the library to find a storybook with an accompanying record or cassette.

You do not have to pay outrageous prices for an audio book. Many music and book stores have a discount section where you can find new releases for up to 30% off the retail value. If those prices are not low enough for you, consider joining your local public library. Most libraries feature an audio section where you can check out books on tape, or compact disc.

Entertaining Audio Books

As any parent can attest, road trips with children can go terribly awry when boredom strikes. Children audio books are a great way to entertain both parents and children when hitting the road and journeying to new and old destinations.

The fabulous aspect of children audio books is the fact that everyone can be entertained. Audio books are very common for business travelers because it offers more diversity than just switching on the radio. Children audio books are no different. Audio books for children are available from many of their favorite authors.

Audio books are created when a performer or someone paid to read, reads from the book. Some offer embellished accents for certain lines and conversations. A common misconception is that the listener will become lost in the monotonous drone of children audio books and not pay attention to the actual story. The abilities of the reader are far more advanced than fourth grade reading groups where one child read aloud as others followed along with the book.

It is increasingly common for most popular children’s books to become children audio books. Not every parent wants to flip down a DVD screen and have the child immerse his or herself in a movie or video. They want to encourage their children to read. Parenting groups recommend reading to a child from an early age. Children audio books accomplish this when the space or time frame does not allow for reading aloud, especially while driving. There is no need to endanger a life or develop motion sickness from staring down at the print.

Technology has changed the way children are learning throughout the world. Computers are used in classrooms and teachers are using software programs to custom design a curriculum based on the needs of each particular child. One issue that is often overlooked until it is too late is whether or not mp3 audiobooks are a beneficial way for children to become knowledgeable in literature.

Mp3 audiobooks are sets of literature recorded onto a digital medium and then downloaded onto an mp3 player. These audio books can range from popular fiction to “how to” guides. The convenience is undeniable. Adults often lead very busy lives and want to stay abreast of current literature but find themselves without the time to sit down and read a book cover to cover. Mp3 audiobooks bridge this gap quite well.

The issue at hand is whether or not it is acceptable for children and teenagers to rely on this medium. Granted it is a great alternative to the portable DVD player but does it actually have any benefits?

The answer is yes and no. Mp3 audiobooks have several plusses. The first is for children just learning to read. All children will find themselves, at one point or another, struggling with a particular word in a story. By following the words while the voice reads them aloud, the child can identify what a particular word or phrase is. It is very much akin to the stories parents read to their children at night. Parents are another version of mp3 audiobooks.

The effectiveness of mp3 audiobooks comes into question when a student is using the file as their sole means of learning. They may know what the story is about but they are not learning how the words come together. They may know what a word sounds like but would not recognize it. Studies have shown that seeing the words helps imprint them into the memory and hearing them may not.

The answer, when it comes to mp3 audiobooks being used, is through moderation. There must be a balance. It is perfectly fine to listen to a book when you do not have the time to sit down and read it but you must not rely on this method alone. A perfect balance is one where the child can listen to a book when time does not permit actually reading it and actually knowing how to process the information.

There are not any colorful pictures when listening to children audio books but that does not have to stop you. Scary voices! If they are too young to be able to hold the book themselves, they can still be entertained by the voices.

Whatever the child is interested in; there are children audio books in public libraries available at the cost of a library card. These free audio books can be checked out and listened to anywhere. Parks, picnics, games, or traveling can all be host to realms beyond that of the norm. The audio books help develop the child and can begin a life-long love of reading.
